SOE Research Colloquium: Teaching Writing: A Collaboration of Teachers, Families, and Children

In conjunction with EXPS 498/598 Exploring Writing with Children & Adolescents, Dr. DeFauw has researched the effectiveness of this writing methodology course for the
(a) undergraduate and graduate students registered for the course, (b) elementary students participating in the writing clinic, and (c) the children's family members participating in the focus group sessions.
Additionally, Danielle has collected data from
student teachers to compare their perceptions of their abilities to teach writing with the undergraduate and graduate students' perceptions enrolled in EXPS 498/598. This research fills a void in the literature of how to prepare preservice and inservice teachers for writing instruction that will impact the current writing epidemic plaguing our schools nationally.
